The Teaching American History Grant Program, administered by the Social Studies Department of the Flint Community Schools and funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is a professional development program for Flint Community Schools teachers. The aim of the program is to raise student achievement by improving teachers’ knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of traditional American history.

This three-year grant program, entitled Freedom Quest, is designed to engage 4th, 5th, 8th and 9th grade history teachers in a rigorous, in-depth professional development program exploring local, state, and national history that is richly integrated with the African American historical experience.
